Featuring indiebrag Children's & Middle Grade Books

In the beginning of the month on indiebrag was Children’s Book Week and throughout the whole month on indiebrag and Layered Pages, we are featuring indiebrag award winning middle grade and children’s books. Indiebrag’s mission is to discover new and talented self-published authors and help them give their work the attention and recognition it deserves. Their primary focus is fiction across a wide range of genres; however, they selectively consider non-fiction books as well.

“The More that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go,” -Dr. Seuss

Today I am sharing books from James Cardona, Bill Merical, Nechama Liss-Levinson, Christopher Dean and Elle Jacklee. Take a journey with Aliens, Miranda Moon, Gertie, Chief Mountain Top, Nathaniel Hancock. Adventures await!

In this fast paced, Children’s holiday, science fiction adventure, Edwin, a fourteen-year-old and an odd character dressed as Santa Claus, attempt to stop aliens and save the planet in 1950’s Manhattan.
When Edwin cuts his finger, dripping a few drops of blood onto a bone-colored tracking device he becomes a target of a group of aliens that think he holds the secret to the human race’s defeat. The only person who seems to know what to do is a fat man wearing a Santa Claus suit and he somehow seems to know just a little too much.

Who is he and why does he know so much? Where did the aliens come from and what are they after? Can a Fourteen-year-old wandering the cold, empty streets of Manhattan late on Christmas Eve and an odd character dressed as Santa Claus stop the aliens, save the planet and discover the true meaning of Christmas/

Miranda Moon’s vivid imagination has gotten her into trouble more times than she can count. This time, she’s been suspended from school. So her straight-laced younger brother, Marcus, blames her when they’re relegated to their late grandparents’ old cabin over Halloween weekend. But when Miranda finds a curious trinket, they’re mysteriously whisked away to Wunderwood, where magic flows through the trees and everyone already knows their family name. A place even Miranda never imagined.

Just as they arrive, a sinister warlock, Thornton Crow, is freed from a long banishment. He resumes his deadly agenda to find The Tree of Mindala, the source of all the realm’s magic. As Miranda and Marcus discover branches of their own family tree that they hadn’t even known existed, they learn that Thornton has a score to settle with anyone in their bloodline. Especially them… Though justice has always had a way of being naturally restored in Wunderwood, Thornton’s latest evil deed just may be the tipping point.

When Miranda discovers her own role in Thornton’s release, she knows it’s up to her to stop him from stealing not just magic, but also hope. With travel companions that could as easily be foes as friends, and only the cryptic words of a prophecy to guide her, Miranda must decide if she can carry out the task that will either save Wunderwood… or doom it forever.

Nine-year-old Gertie and her family have to flee New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina is about to flood the city.  Gertie must leave behind her friends, her house, her “stuff” and life as she knew it before the storm.  In this thoughtful and optimistic book, Gertie attends a new school, makes new friends, and tries to cling to family traditions as her world turns upside down.  She realizes that no matter where she is, her innate gifts and talents will always be with her.  Indeed, she is the change that heals and makes the world a better place.  A wonderful and charming resource, written by a psychologist, for children ages 8 and up, dealing with any type of loss or change in their lives.  As timely today as seven years ago.

The Journey of Fallen Rock is a children’s story about family, the adventure of traveling coast to coast across this great land and the lesson that we all can enjoy our natural resources while we still protect and preserve them.  The story starts with Chief Mountain Top sending his sons Fallen Rock and Running Water on a journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean with six task to complete, the brother who returns first will be the next chief of their village. You will get to travel with Fallen Rock on his journey and experience each of his 6 task as he completes them while doing all he can to beat his brother home. You will get to meet along with Fallen Rock members of The Protectors of Our Land as he travels. Work Zone, Deer Crossing, Exit, Rail Road Crossing, Mile Marker and others and learn how they and the other members of The Protectors of Our Land are all over the world and how they do whatever they can to help protect and preserve all of our natural resources.

An epic adventure is set in motion when talented young artist Nathaniel Hancock receives a new drawing pen for Christmas, he promises his great-grandfather that he’ll prepare him a Masterpiece for the following year. But Nathaniel is naive for the Pen is magical-and as he makes his finishing touches, the Masterpiece comes to life before his very eyes. After entering the drawing, he discovers that he’s added new territory to the enchanted land that lies beyond: The Inkworld, a pen-and-ink realm where reality is limited only by the artist’s imagination. After Nathaniel rescues the drawing of an elf from a deadly prison, he realizes the Inkworld is far more complex than he ever imagined. For dark forces lurk beneath the idyllic surface. In saving the elf, Nathaniel accidentally unleashes an ancient evil that threatens to destroy all that’s good in the Inkworld… And it’s up to him to set things right…
